WORM Compost
This page is a Work. In. Progress.
Thanks for your understanding as I continue to build resources to educate on building soil fertility through making compost. The Worm Compost Method utilizes Worms digestive systems to kill pathogens, diseases, and improve fertility of seeds. All while building the beneficial bacteria, protozoa, fungi, nematodes and more.
WORM COMPOSTING TIPS
Keep the worm food moist - around 80% moisture, worms like it wet! Have you ever noticed all the earthworms underneath a piece of wet cardboard?
Feed 85% carbons: paper/leaves/woodshavings
Worms love food that’s been ground up by a blender, or from juicing and food that’s been frozen (feed it to them once it’s thawed)
Feed them your coffee grounds too
GARDEN WORM COMPOSTING TIP
Drill holes in bottom and lower third of lidded bucket
Bury the bucket to the rim in your garden
Put some grass clippings, shredded paper, or dried leaves in the bottom of the pail
Add your food scraps to the pail and layer with leaves/grass clippings with food scraps
Watch the worms and microbes eat it up
You can plant a few buckets around your garden
To help things along you can add 200-300 worms to the bucket
BEST TIME TO APPLY COMPOST
If you have the Celestial Planting Calendar, look for the Earth days, which are shown as green hourly blocks in the monthly charts in your calendar.
The energy of the Earth element enhances the absorption of the nutrients to support soil and plant structure.
